Rex M. Babbitt was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Detroit, MI to Reginald and Helen Eisenberg Babbitt. In Rye his family lived at 25 Vale Pl.
He married Meri Gedney, of Rye on Aug. 1, 1942. Rex enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He received the silver wings of an aerial gunner in the Army Air Forces in May 1943.
Rex was promoted to the grade of sergeant. after completing training at the Army Air Forces Flexible Gunnery School, Tyndall Field, Panama City, FL
He served as a sergeant from 1943 to 1945 and earned the American Theater Ribbon and the Bronze Star.
After the war Rex worked for Garth Custom Kitchens in Scarsdale, NY. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in White Plains.
Rex M. Babbitt, a resident of Rye and a kitchen designer, died Sunday December 1, 1987 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Warwick, 'N.Y., after a brief illness. He was 69.
In addition to his wife, Rex was survived by three daughters, Kerry Babbitt of Danbury, Conn., Kendal Kless of Warwick, and Kyle Myers of Dingmans FerHe ry, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
